Jurassic World earned the biggest worldwide box office debut of all time

C’s get degrees, and C-grade movies get lots of money.

Jurassic World earned an astounding $511.8 million around the world, giving the film the biggest opening global box office of all time. The movie features Chris Pratt allied with dinosaurs and a cameo by Jimmy Buffet in which he saves margaritas from dinosaurs (not a joke, guys). Jurassic World‘s remarkable success has led many people to wonder, “What the f**?”

The worldwide dominance of Jurassic World is built on all-time second-place finishes in domestic and international box office. Jurassic World is the second-highest international box office debut behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. It’s also the second-highest domestic box office debut of all time, right behind Marvel’s The Avengers, and above Avengers: Age of Ultron. In terms of all-time domestic openings, that makes Jurassic World the meat in a mediocre on mediocre sandwich.

This means more Jurassic movies. No word yet on a spin-off film about Jimmy Buffet saving margaritas from imminent danger.
