Kevin Feige confirms the eventual crossover of the MCU films and Disney+ shows

This past year’s Avengers: Endgame marked a particularly interesting moment in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, in my mind. Besides being the culmination of a decade’s worth of filmmaking, it sort of gave us a hint at how these characters and properties would be treated moving forward. Basically, I was hoping with all hope that Matt Murdock would leap through one of those Endgame portals, and maybe we’d catch a glimpse of Frank Castle loading a rifle to brutalize some of Thanos’ goons.

But, alas, Netflix’s mini-MCU is dead and buried, it would seem.

But with Disney+ just a day from launching, and the promise of a slew of original Marvel shows coming to the streaming service, naturally the thought comes up again; “Will these shows bridge over into the main-event films?” Recently, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige weighed in on the notion.

On a The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter Podcast, the subject of the Disney+ shows comes up (around 37:36), with Feige making some pretty clear statements.

“Some characters like we’ve announced She-Hulk and Ms Marvel and Moon Knight you will meet for the first time in a Disney+ show and then they will go into the movies,” Feige confirmed. He also mentioned, in reference to WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (both filming now), that the Disney+ programs will very much tie in with the character narratives of the films, where in the shows those characters will “undergo transformative, very-exciting changes” that carry over to the films. We’ve all got our homework, then.

It’s a detail that many would seem to have assumed, but nice to have confirmed nonetheless. I would hate for my white-capped brawler Marc Spector to be shunned from the limelight he deserves.

Next up on the MCU plate is Black Widow, slated for release May 1, 2020. Disney+ launches tomorrow, November 12.
