Uncle Drew Teaser Trailer #1 (2018) | Movieclips Trailers

Kyrie Irving has been a star on the court ever since he was taken first overall by the then LeBron-less Cleveland Cavaliers. He’s quick with the shot and his handles are so good he makes defenders look like one of those wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube men. He conquered the dynastical Warriors in 2016 for his first NBA championship, and now he’s on to a new challenge: movies.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Uncle Drew lore, I encourage you to take half a day and go down the YouTube wormhole, starting here. Done in coordination with Pepsi in 2012, Kyrie put on some makeup, gray hair, and glasses before stepping on the court with some young’uns to teach them a thing or two. There’s an ongoing debate as to whether or not the Uncle Drew docs were staged, but regardless, Irving’s got some acting chops and looks solid as an elderly gent.

Fast forward to 2018, and Irving is bringing the character to the big screen with the help of a few other NBA legends. Taking place at historic Rucker Park, a young man named Dax (Lil Rel Howery) is in dire straights after sinking his money into a tournament then losing his teammates to his worst nightmare (Nick Kroll). He’s got nowhere else to turn, and that’s when Uncle Drew shows up. In pure Getting The Band Back Together fashion, Dax and Drew round up the gang which includes Shaquille O’Neal, Reggie Miller, Chris Webber, Nate Robinson and Lisa Leslie in all their grayed-out glory. Do they enough in the tank for a championship run? Find out when Uncle Drew hits theaters on June 29th.
