Legend of Conan to embrace Schwarzenegger’s ‘rust’

When news broke of Schwarzenegger’s return as Conan for The Legend of Conan in October, Chris Morgan gave us a few hints as to what to expect from the newer, yet older Conan. In speaking with Hero Complex recently, Morgan detailed a little of what we should expect out of Conan now that he’s so old:

I want the warrior whose joints have started to fuse together, who has to crack the cartilage so he can pick up a sword again. I want the guy who’s not necessarily lost a step, but there’s some rust he has to shake off. I want to embrace that. It makes it a greater hero story. Conan needs to be faced with challenges. The greatest challenge to him isn’t the armies that are set before him. It’s, on some level, self-doubt, a little bit of slowing down and forcing yourself to be heroic beyond what people expect of you. What I don’t want is for him to step back in and look the same. That would defeat the purpose of our story.

Last time, I was a little concerned how they were going to reintroduce Conan. For a minute there, I though that good old “Ahnuld” was just going to jump back in and try and crush his enemies like he used to. With this new route of an older Conan, I’m expecting the same kind of “one last bout” story that Rocky Balboa had. What about all of you? Would you prefer a young Conan (a la the recent Mamoa reboot) or the older, wiser one that Schwarzenegger is going to attempt?
