Live-action Kiki’s Delivery Service film confirmed

A few weeks ago, we brought news of a potential live-action adaptation of Kiki’s Delivery Service to be directed by The Grudge series creator Takashi Shimizu. Today, Twitch has confirmed the film’s production, as well as Fuka Koshiba in the lead role as Kiki.

Now then, a bit of an uproar was let out, as many [incorrectly] assumed the film would be an adaptation of the famed Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki classic. However, this live-action film would be based on the book written by Eiko Kadono. Furthermore, it’ll incorporate elements from the first two books of the five book series.

It’ll be interesting to see how this film fares, both in terms of Shimizu’s ability to move away from the horror genre his name has been established in, but also movie audiences’ perception of the Studio Ghibli classic as the definitive take on Kiki.
