Ludi Lin eyed to play Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat

Variety reports that Chinese-Canadian actor Ludi Lin is being eyed to portray Liu Kang in the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot. Previously seen in Aquaman and Power Rangers, Lin is skilled in both Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu and studied acting at the University of British Colombia. He has the chops, which should make him a fitting actor to embody the character of Liu Kang.

We still don’t know any plot details for the reboot, but with Liu Kang in the picture, it could be a complete reset of the series’ legacy. The original game was basically a retelling of Bruce Lee’s iconic Enter The Dragon, where warriors from around the world came together to battle in a tournament. Mortal Kombat developers Midway injected some fantastical elements into the story, which created a bunch of different realms and species for players to select. It paid homage to the sometimes weird stories present in 70s and 80s Hong Kong cinema and went on to be incredibly successful.

The reboot is currently in pre-production and has an expected release date of March 2021. James Wan will produce and Simon McQuoid will handle directorial duties. Shooting should begin later this year in Adelaide, Australia. Mortal Kombat is said to be the biggest production in South Australia’s history.
