Macaulay Caulkin recreates classic scenes from Home Alone in new Google Ad

More nostalgic feels this week it seems, especially after we just our first look at Aladdin. Macaulay Caulkin went back to his Home Alone roots reprising his role as a 38-year old Kevin in a new commercial. The ad is for Google’s Home Assistant and they literally re-shot a few of some of the iconic scenes of Kevin being home alone.

If you watch the video above you will see how well done it is. The funny part is how this Kevin uses his new Google Home Assistant to help him with being home alone. I loved seeing him in the house again, as well as some of the funny antics I knew and loved when I first saw the film. Caulkin has aged well and my favorite part of this commercial is when he is jumping on his parents’ bed, only this time he hurts his back–ouch.

Google created a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the commercial for fans who want to see the actual shot by shot comparisons. You can check that out below.

According to Google, searches for Home Alone go up a crazy 1,900% during this time of year. It was also announced that for a limited time only, fans can hear some sweet Home Alone Easter eggs by asking their Google Home Assistant specific questions. All you have to do is say “Hey Google”:

  • “Did I forget something?” and you will hear the iconic ‘KEVINNNN! scream.
  • “How much do I owe you?” or “It’s me Snakes, I got the stuff.” and you will recreate the dialogue from “Angels with Filthy Souls”, the film Kevin watches while eating a mountain of ice cream.
  • “The Wet Bandits are Here” and Kevin will tell you what he would do.
  • “I’m the man of the house” and you will literally relive the scene when Kevin puts aftershave on.

It’s a neat way of marketing on Google’s part to entice fans who grew up with the film to relive some of their favorite moments. Home Alone is another one of my favorite holiday films and it’s nice to see it back in the spotlight again.
