Mae Whitman puts some perk into the Wallflower adaptation

I didn’t read the classic coming-of-age tale The Perks of Being a Wallflower, but now that Mae Whitman is attached as a sexy, tattooed vegetarian (two out of three ain’t bad!), I may just go out and pick it up, just like I did with The Hunger Games in light of all the casting information that has been flying around.

She was great in Arrested Development and Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World and is absolutely sensational in Parenthood, so it’s awesome to see her getting more work on the big screen.

She joins Percy Jackson and the Olympians lead Lorgan Lerman and Harry Potter’s bewitching Emma Watson, who play the male and female leads respectively. Stephen Chbosky, the book’s author, is penning the screenplay, which is awesome, because we should get something resembling the source material.

Shooting is scheduled to begin next month, and for the small legion of Mae Whitman fans here at Flixist, that’s not soon enough.
