Marion Cotillard is reportedly “in discussions” to join the ever-growing cast of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. First broken on a French news site, the role Cotillard is up for, of the two reported female leads in the film, is the “romantic lead” for Bruce Wayne. If you guys remember way back when, early reports had Nolan casting two major female roles, one as a romantic lead, and the other as a villainess. If this is true, then we learn a little more about the upcoming film.
This means A) that Anne Hathaway, playing Selina Kyle, is more likely a villain of the piece, which means we’re more likely to see her as Catwoman. Additionally, this means, in my opinion, that Cotillard is notplaying Talia al Ghul, daughter of Batman Begins’s Ra’s al Ghul. My reasoning is that Talia, while a sometimes love of the Caped Crusader, is more often a sexy villainess. Although as Talia is the mother of Batman’s son, this could be a way to use Cotillard’s pregnancy for the film. There will probably be some light shed on this in the next few days, so stay tuned.
