New Regency, the studio behind such films as Fight Club and LA Confidential, has just announced that they’ve picked up the Michael Fassbender-led film adaptation of Assassin’s Creed. While we originally tipped that Sony got the rights to the film, that has been proven to be full of shenanigans.

According to New Regency:

“Ubisoft chose to partner with New Regency because they are a talent- and filmmaker-driven company, with the same independent and creative mindset that we have at Ubisoft Motion Pictures,” said Jean-Julien Baronnet, chief executive officer, Ubisoft Motion Pictures. “Bringing aboard New Regency’s renowned production and distribution expertise while maintaining our own creative and financial flexibility ensures that Assassin’s Creed will be a high-quality film that respects the lore and fans of the video game franchise.”

The film is being fast-tracked as the screenplay is being fast tracked for development. Ubisoft, however, ultimately has creatie control of the film’s key points, which could be a great thing for fan’s of the Assassin’s Creed series. Keep your eyes peeled for more news to come. What a great way to drum up excitement for the franchise with the third proper entry of the series set to release next week, huh?
