Miguel Cera habla espanol para una pelicula

There are a lot of Michel Cera detractors. The main complaint by this group is that he tends to play the same character in the majority of the roles he takes. Could this be a sign of type casting? Limited acting ability? I wouldn’t go so far as to say his range is narrow; rather, he just hasn’t been given many roles to showcase the rest of the talent.

Apparently, others feel the same way. The Playlist is reporting news from Cera’s one-time director, Miguel Arteta (Youth in Revolt), claiming that Cera is “spending five hours a day learning Spanish.” The role is reportedly for Sebastian Silva’s new project, which is filming in Chile.

For those who don’t recognize SIlva, his 2009 film, The Maid, won both Grand Prize Jury: World Cinema Dramatic and Special Jury Prize for Acting, World Cinema (for Catalina Saavedra’s role) at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.

I sincerely hope this raises Cera’s game and can help elevate him from the purported pigeonholing he’s fallen into. What do you guys think? Does a Miguel Cera film interest you?
