Miyazaki’s next film will be a biopic of Jiro Horikoshi

Now here is a man whose works I eagerly anticipate! So as I deliver this news to you I want you to know that my heart is brimming with joy! Acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki’s next film will be a biopic of Jiro Horikoshi, the man made famous for the design of the Zero fighter plane, the very aircraft Japan used in its bombing of Pearl Harbor.

What’s that you say? This doesn’t seem like a subject for Miyazaki, what with is films being full of whimsy and magic? Well, for those who aren’t aware, Miyazaki has an obsession with aircraft that he is quite notorious for. Even the name of Studio Ghibli is derived from the nick-name of an Italian scouting airplane, so this sounds like it may be a dream project of his. If so, maybe Miyazaki will finally follow through with retiring and I can lock myself in my room and weep for a month afterward. Maybe longer if I have recently watched My Neighbor Totoro.
