By Mondo has had a big twenty-four hours! At their Mondo Mystery Movie X screening last night, their mystery movie was revealed to be The Lord of the Rings, and they also announced that they were kicking off a new series of posters that will “include all films and multiple artists.” This is pretty big news for Mondo, because while they’ve been wildly successful in the poster distribution of a lot of cult movies, The Lord of the Rings is a pretty big mainstream jump for them. At the very least, a lot more people are probably going to hear about them because they’re making posters for one of the most well-recognized and beloved movie franchises in history. The first poster in the series, “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” by artist Aaron Horkey, was unveiled yesterday at the Mondo Mystery Movie X at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar.
Mondo also released yesterday that sometime today they will be putting a brand new movable paper figure on sale. This time – Brad Bird’s Iron Giant. The drawing was made by artist Kevin Tong and it comes with nine points of articulation. To celebrate, they’re also releasing the remaining prints of artist Laurent Durieux‘s posters for The Iron Giant and King Kong. Iron Giant figure process photo from Mondo Blog.
