MST3K is back with 14 new episodes, breaking Kickstarter records

The Bring Back Mystery Science Theater 3000 Kickstarter campaign has been a resounding success, earning $5.7 million as well as some additional cash in “add-on donations” for a grand total of $6.3 million. This is the most money secured by a Kickstarter video project, edging out the Veronica Mars movie Kickstarter.

That means the new cast (Jonah Ray, Felicia Day, Patton Oswalt, Hampton Yount, and Baron Vaughn) will appear in 14 episodes, as well as a holiday special. It’s also been reported that Jerry Seinfeld, Mark Hamill, and Joel McHale will be making guest appearances on the show. Series creator Joel Hodgson has also reached out to Bill Hader, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jack Black for guest appearances, though nothing is confirmed at this time.

In addition, we’ve learned that Adam Savage of Mythbusters will be assisting with the new MST3K‘s special effects, and that Dan Harmon (Community, Rick and Morty) will be helping with writing duties.

Congrats to Joel, the bots, and new crew of The Satellite of Love. We have movie sign.
