Neil Patrick Harris joins Matrix 4 cast, Jada Pinkett Smith in talks

We’ve got a double whammy of casting news for the upcoming Matrix 4. The surprise sequel to The Wachowski’s turn of the century hit has landed Neil Patrick Harris in an unspecified role. Considering his comedic past, I’d imagine he’ll play someone similar to Tank from the original film (who was slight comic relief/the tech guy).

As well as that, Jada Pinkett Smith is in talks to reprise her role from The Matrix sequels for this new iteration. As Deadline reports, negotiations are not yet complete for her to make a return. She played a tremendous role in Enter The Matrix, the 2003 video game intertwined with both sequels, so she isn’t a stranger to this series.

At the moment, we know next to nothing about what the plot of this new sequel will even be about. Considering both Neo and Trinity died in The Matrix Revolutions, I’m not sure in what capacity Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will feature in this film. Laurance Fishburne has also not been tapped to reprise the role of Morpheus, with actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II rumored to play a younger version of the character. I’m mostly worried that the studio is focusing too much on casting big names instead of creating something truly special.
