Netflix now a streaming company, no disc option coming

I love having physical media to show off on my bookshelf, but I have to admit that since Netflix started streaming over my home consoles my return rate for discs has gone down. I believe I’ve had my current disc for somewhere around two months now, and it doesn’t look like its getting played any time soon. Streaming is where Netflix is at, and I’m not the only one who thinks so as the company has stated that it now considers themselves a streaming company.

CEO Reed Hastings stated, “By every measure we are now primarily a streaming company that also offers DVD-by-mail,” after revealing some amazing profits for the last quarter, most of which were spurred on by the company’s streaming abilities. This statement was reportedly followed by strong hints that Netflix would soon be offering a streaming only subscription.

While my dusty disc from Netflix might argue differently, I wouldn’t dump the disc option any time soon. There are just so many more movies you can get with the DVD portion, and high definition streaming still isn’t the standard, while I can get Blu-Rays for most movies now.
