New Bloodsport will not feature blood and/or sports

Remember when Jean Claude Van Damme, the god of badass splits himself, said that he wouldn’t mind appearing in the Bloodsport reboot but no one contacted him? I remember thinking, “That’s odd, it would only make the new movie credible and make it that much more badass.” You know why JCVD’s badassness wasn’t invited to the blood party? It’s because the Bloodsport reboot will have nothing to do with the original film and feature no blood sports. Still with me?

In an interview with Crave Online writer Mark Kamen (Rider), the same guy who did the pie chart worthy Taken 2 the Streets, stated that Bloodsport will:

[resemble] the original in title only. It has nothing to do with any Kumite contest. It has nothing to do with Frank Dux. If the title was not the same, you would not associate the two films. [And JCVD at the blood party] would make no sense because the association would be lost as the story has nothing to do with the first one. If anything it would be a distraction.

You get all that? A movie titled Bloodsport will have no blood and/or sports because they are “distracting.” Kamen also continues on with the bad ideas stating:

No splits [in the Bloodsport remake]. This is a character driven, politically motivated film. It has nothing to do with splits or muscles or grudge matches and as I said, if the title were not attached to the rights, you would not associate one film with the other.

Um…what? So if it weren’t for the title, people wouldn’t associate the two films? So does that make the new Bloodsport a dirty liar? The answer is yes. I’m assuming people are going to see a movie titled Bloodsport thinking it’ll have badassness, but will walk out disappointed when the term “bloodsport” turns out to be a metaphor for the education system…or something. You know what? Screw all that. I’m just going to go watch the original again.
