New concept art from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim

We’re a few months away from the release of Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro’s love letter to kaiju movies and giant robots. The movie landed the cover of Total Film, and in the magazine are some new bits of concept art. One features a Jaeger (giant defense robot) looming in the distance, while the other features a huge monster skull in the middle of a city. Based on the viral Pacific Rim blueprints, the Jaeger shown is the Russian model named Cherno Alpha.

During the Legendary Comics/Pacific Rim panel at New York Comic Con 2012, they mentioned that there will be prequel comics for Pacific Rim that will help flesh out the world of the film. I’m guessing this concept art is part of the film’s 1,000-page Bible that’s guiding various facets of production.

Take a look at the concept art and the Total Film cover in the gallery. Pacific Rim will punch monsters in the jaw on July 12th.
