New Girl and Brooklyn 99 are doing a crossover

New Girl and Brooklyn 99 might be the funniest shows on television right now. After a brilliant resurgence in New Girl‘s fourth season and continued awesomeness throughout Brooklyn 99 it is pretty much impossible to not laugh out loud during every episode. Now they’re crossing over and I may literally suffocate from laughter.

The hour long special, airing on October 11, will actually be an episode of Brooklyn 99 at 8 p.m. followed by an episode of New Girl at 8:30. This can only lead to greatness as the history of television crossovers shows… wait, crap. Well, Elizabeth Meriwether, creator and executive producer of New Girl sums it up well.

“The crossover episode has historically been the artistic high point of any show that has dared to attempt it,” she said. “Maybe you remember ‘Blackout Thursday’ on NBC, or even further back the infamous ‘Alf’/‘Gilligan’s Island’ crossover of the late 1980s. NEW GIRL and BROOKLYN NINE-NINE will proudly and humbly go where few shows have gone since the 1990s. We know we have big shoes to fill, and we look forward to disappointing everyone. There’s a 50% chance Alf will also be in both episodes. But there’s also a 50% chance that is a lie.”
