It’s been a year since we last saw any images from Justin Kurzel’s Macbeth, but with a Cannes-screening next month, we’ve received three new stills from Empire, showcasing Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in costume.
The images, which you can see in the gallery below, were accompanied by more information about the movie. It’s “a reimagining of what wartime must have been like for one of Shakespeare’s most famous and compelling characters, a story of all-consuming passion and ambition set in war-torn medieval Scotland”. Kurzel also added that “It reminded me a lot of a Western, and of a landscape and atmosphere that felt much more dangerous than I’d ever seen before from adaptations of Macbeth”.
The screenplay is co-written by Jacob Koskoff, Michael Lesslie and Todd Lousio, and anyone who’s seen Kurzel’s The Snowtown Murders should be able to feel the enormous potential in a Shakespeare-adaptation.
