By Holy crap, it’s 1/11/11! The stars have aligned and given birth to Flixist’s New Releases Tuesday. We’re bringing you all the new releases for this historical, once-a-century day full of ones. Actually, there’s actually not too much to crow about, as today’s new releases are slim, but there’s plenty of special editions and Blu-rays that should catch the interest of some of you. Actually, there’s actually not too much to crow about, as today’s new releases are slim, but there’s plenty of special editions and Blu-rays that should catch the interest of some of you. Obviously, everybody’s super excited about The Social Network, which is likely to sweep the floor with most other Oscar nominees. Also, Pirahna 3D is out, so fans of ludicrous gore, bizarre naked underwater ballet, and Jerry O’Connell will want to snatch that up. And for you anthros and furries (don’t worry, no judgment here), there’s Alpha and Omega.
As far as straight-to-DVD fares go, we’ve got Heartbreaker, about a brother and sister team who break people up that have one week to dissolve the wedding of a client’s daughter, and The Freebie, a romantic comedy starring Dax Shepard and Katie Aselton, resident sexy mama of FX’s The League. This one may have passed me by had I not IMDb’d it.
As far as other releases go, Denzel fans finally get the answer to their prayers with the Blu-ray release of The Great Debaters and it looks like The Asylum is re-releasing their seminal classic Halloween Night, to the relief of tens of fans everywhere. CORRECTION: it's not the Asylum's Halloween Night, it's another B-movie about a bullied high school student who sends a scarecrow after his peers on, believe it or not, Halloween night. Sounds like a movie.
