If I had to choose between watching I Am Number Four again, seeing Gnomeo & Juliet, and being eaten by a shark, I’d seriously consider the latter option. I Am Number Four wasn’t terrible but as far as Young Adult movie adaptations go, it was not great. Gnomeo & Juliet has, at no point, appealed to me since I saw the trailer for the first time. Fortunately, the creepy-looking LA-based black comedy Burning Palms is out, proving this week to not be a total loss. I hopefully will have it in my hands before the week is over.
Other releases this week include Asylum’s The Almighty Thor, which comes a week late to the party with its Blu-ray release, Solaris (presumably the original and not the Clooney one) and Chaplin’s The Great Dictator each get a Criterion release, and the hilariously-premised The Scenesters, an art house black comedy about a group of film-makers in LA trying to track down a serial killer who targets hipsters, finally gets a dvd release.
