By I have done you all a disservice. Last week, I lost a day due to Memorial Day and never got around to posting the new releases. Due to a mixture of lame, super early-morning day-jobbery and a dangerous degree of sun-bakery, yesterday seemed to escape me as well. But you don’t want excuses, you want new releases, damn it!
And by God, I’ll give them to you! Two whole weeks worth of new effing releases. There’s a LOT of stuff out to sift through, so let me help sift with a handful of suggestions.
The rootin’, tootin’ True Grit remake by the Brothers Coen is finally out on Blur-ray and DVD, so buy it and experience the awesome that is the Bear Man. If you don’t know who Bill Hicks is, he’s the guy Dennis Leary wishes he could be. Make sure you check out American: The Bill Hicks Story. Rubber, the mind-numbingly weird art-house tire slasher we famously podcasted about is finally out on the store shelves. Get it, watch it, listen to the podcast, and tell us what you think! the 40th anniversary (sweet Christmas) of A ClockworkOrnage is upon us, and appropriately they’ve released a new copy of the masterpiece to add to your collection. One that’s on the fence is Flixist-favorite Nic Cage’s Ghost Rider Drive Angry 3D. It’s either “so bad it’s good” or so bad it’s so bad that my brain couldn’t handle it and blocked most of it from my memory.” That’s on you to determine. Finally, in the “so bad it’s bad” category, is Just Go With It. If you’re a Sandler fan, you’ll be happy to know he delivers the same movie once again, but with larger breasts this time. If you’re not, Troma’s classic Mother’s Day is also on the shelf.
