New Releases, week of 6/29/13: Achoo Resneezes Edition

0

I’ve been sick for the last three weeks, and it’s gone from being unpleasant to just downright annoying. After looking up my symptoms online, I’m led to believe that I’m suffering from The Scriverner’s Lung, The Hipster Dropsy, or delirium venesection. But that won’t stop me from doing these here new releases.

The big newbies this week include the underwhelming The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, the Halle Berry vehicle The Call, the topsy-turvy romance Upside Down, and the Oscar-nominated Chilean film No. Also new and out are As Luck Would Have It (which Alec really, really liked), Zombie Ass (which I inexplicably liked despite my better judgement), and The Rambler (which left me really cold).

On the re-release side, the most notable thing is the Criterion Collection’s six-disc version of Shoah, Claude Lanzmann’s nine-hour-plus documentary on the Holocaust. On a much different and lighter note, there are also a bunch of Nunsense re-releases this week, if anyone remembers the strange nun craze of the 1990s.

After the cut, check out the new DVDs and Blu-rays, and get down with the sickness.
