By When I was a kid, I used to watch the same three or four episodes of Spaceketeers (aka Starzinger) on a VHS tape over and over again. I never knew how the series ended or where the story was going to go, but I just kept watching those episodes. Now Starzinger is available on DVD in the US, and I’m so plonking down and plowing through the show in one week.
While the volume is there, this is actually a pretty light week for new releases in terms of high-profile titles. The biggies you might recognize are Michael Haneke’s critically acclaimed Amour and the CG animated film Epic. Also of note on the new release side is the thriller Shadow Dancer and the documentary Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey.
On the re-release side (apart from Starzinger) there’s a new edition of Disney’s Peter Pan, two Satyajit Ray films getting the Criterion treatment (The Big City and Charulata), and a bunch of multi-movie collections of varying quality.
