By The big new release of the week is the in-name-only adaptation of World War Z. Once maligned and expected to tank, the movie wound up being profitable and there’s talk of a sequel. Other big new things this week include Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring, the eco-thriller The East, Michel Gondry’s The We and the I, and, of course, WWE Summerslam 2013. (Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!)
On the re-release side, Criterion’s putting out a new edition of Ingmar Bergman’s Autumn Sonata on DVD and Blu-ray as well as a Blu-ray debut for Richard Lannklater’s Slacker. George Romero’s Day of the Dead has a collector’s edition re-issue, and there’s a complete collection of the Tremors quartet/tetralogy on Blu-ray.
