New Rogue One behind-the-scenes videos introduce K-2SO (the anti-C3PO) and new planet

The final stretch of Rogue One marketing and hype is upon us as December 16th draws near. We had three new Rogue One clips earlier today, and now we have two new behind-the-scenes featurettes.

The first of these videos feature K-2SO, the reprogrammed Imperial droid who fights alongside Cassian (Diego Luna) and Jyn (Felicity Jones). Described as “the anti-C-3PO”, K-2SO is voiced by and mo-capped by cult favorite Alan Tudyk (the anti-Anthony Daniels?).

Nice to see physicality and practical effects being used, even if there’s a mo-cap performance going on. This and the material in an earlier Rogue One creature workshop featurette give me faith in the new approach to Star Wars VFX.

Next, let’s check out that new tropical island planet, which was shot on location in Maldives.

There’s sand, water, and ‘splosions. Also, there’s director Gareth Edwards.
