Nick Offerman joining Diablo Cody’s directorial debut

Ahhh, it’s great to see Nick Offerman’s career take off. From his badass role as Ron Swanson in Parks and Recreation to his, uh, cameo in 21 Jump Street… and as that random goon in Sin City, I guess… well, in any case, he’s getting more roles. So there. He’ll be joining Diablo Cody’s next film, which she’ll be writing as well as directing this time, probably being coached from the sidelines by Jason Reitman’s honed directional expertise (probably in the form of a supportive phone call or something). Joining Ron Swa–er, Nick Offerman in the film will be Octavia Spencer, Holly Hunter, Russell Brand and Julianne Hough.

The film, at one time entitled Lamb of God, revolves around “a young woman (Hough) who loses her faith after a plane crash and decides to go to Las Vegas to experience the wild side of life.” Sounds kind of like that one movie with Angelina Jolie as a reporter. She was blonde for some reason. Didn’t really like that film, but I recognize the archetype; a movie where someone experiences something traumatic or amazing and then tries to take control of their life. American Beauty, About Schmidt, Office Space and countless others follow this same setup. I guess we’ll see how this one pans out. One thing’s for sure, though. Nick Offerman’s role in this will pretty much rank the film among classics such as Casablanca or Citizen Kane.
