On the Road might be on at Cannes Film Festival

It’s no secret that Jack Kerouac’s On the Road is a sacred tome around my parts. The upcoming film adaptation by Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries), however, isn’t a sure thing. In fact… things are definitely lacking about the film. Besides general casting information and a generically awesome poster, no real news has come out.

…until now. Rumor has it that the film is set for a European release date of May 23rd. Coincidentally, that coincides with the coincidental dates of the Cannes Film Festival. How about that? Given the source material and indie film cred, it’s not a real stretch to assume On the Road will, in fact, premiere at the festival.

Are you guys as excited about the Sam Riley and Garret Hedlund-led adaptation? Granted, that main billing isn’t as excited as Jack Kerouac and Marlon Brando, but it’s still something, right?
