Original cast returning to Silent Hill

2006’s Silent Hill wasn’t perfect – especially that exposition-o-rama of an ending – but it was one of the better video game adaptations and moderately successful at the box-office. A sequel, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, is currently being filmed and will see the return of the original movie’s headline actors, Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean and Deborah Kara Unger.

Since the press release doesn’t specify in what capacity they will feature, it’s possible that all three will be cameos only, but based on the attention that the announcement has been given and that Bean and Unger (who originally featured in supporting roles) are returning alongside Mitchell, I would speculate that they’ll have reasonably substantial parts to play.

The new movie is loosely based on the Silent Hill 3 game (Adelaide Clemens is the new star, playing the game’s protagonist Heather Mason), which means the producers have weirdly decided to overlook Silent Hill 2, the most popular in the series. Mitchell’s return is good news, as I’ve had a soft spot for her since When Strangers Appear became an obscure favourite of mine (and surefire future Cult Club entry), but let’s hope Sean Bean makes more of an effort this time around. His lethargy was somewhat understandable though: he’s originally from Sheffield, so probably took one look at Silent Hill and wondered what all the fuss was about.
