Paddy Considine leads Brit success at Sundance

Paddy Considine is one of the most acclaimed British character actors of his generation, having starred in such a wide variety of films as In America, My Summer of Love, Dead Man’s Shoes, Hot Fuzz, the exceptional Red Riding trilogy and the upcoming Submarine (my London Film Festival review here). Having turned his hand to directing, he is now enjoying rave notices at Sundance with his debut Tyrannosaur, a melancholy love story about a man on the verge of self-destruction finding hope in a charity worker (Olivia Colman, best known for roles in Brit-coms Peep Show and Green Wing) with demons of her own to exorcise. Variety and The Guardian have given the film their support and Considine has revealed to Indiewire that he already has plans for his next directorial outing, a ghost story called The Leaning.

Considine isn’t the only Brit basking in the Sundance spotlight though: the wondrous Felicity Jones’ performance in Like Crazy, one of the festival’s earliest big buys when Paramount signed it for $4m, is being called ‘absolutely wonderful‘ and ‘a star-making performance‘ in a film drawing comparisons to Blue Valentine.
