Paul Verhoeven looking to direct Oh…

0

We haven’t heard much out of Paul Verhoeven in a long time. The boundary pushing director hasn’t made a full film since Black Book in 2006 and his short film Tricked barely got any play outside of his Dutch homeland, which is why news that he’s looking to adapt French author Philippe Djian’s 2012 novel Oh…is quite exciting.

The book is about “a psychological game of cat-and-mouse between a businesswoman and a stalker who raped her, a crime for which she is seeking revenge.” Sounds right up Verhoeven’s no-holds-barred alley, and with the press release stating things like “It’s a very intelligent script but it’s also pure Verhoeven, extremely erotic and perverted,” it’ll be sure to raise some ire. If Verhoeven can recapture his previous magic in which his violence and unflinching camera allow for commentary on touchy subjects this could be a really interesting film. If he can’t then it’s going to be really offensive.

No casting has been lined up yet and nor a release date.
