Cast this one into the bizarre territory, but it seems as if the upcoming live-action Peter Pan remake will see actor Jude Law portray Captain Hook. I’m not sure how a suave British actor such as Law fits that kind of role, but I guess Disney really just wants star power attached to this completely unnecessary reimagining.
The news comes from Variety, which claims that sources close to the project have confirmed Law’s involvement. It probably is safe to take this as fact since it really is an outlandish claim to make. There has to be some basis of truth because who the hell would say this otherwise?
As for technical information about the film, we know the title will be Peter Pan & Wendy. David Lowery of Pete’s Dragon will be directing the project with a script co-written by Lowery and Toby Halbrooks. Jim Whitaker will produce, which sounds fine. The last we heard of the film, it was being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so production must be starting up again.
I’m more just over Disney’s endless nostalgia baiting. It would be nice to see an original live-action project, but I guess the studio can’t turn away the practically guaranteed $1 billion box-office haul.
