Phil Lord and Chris Miller will direct a Han Solo movie

Rumblings of what Phil Lord and Chris Miller would be doing next after making everything awesome have been floating around. One of those rumbles, that they were going to do a Star Wars film, has come true. The pair will be directing a stand alone Han Solo film, which is probably the best news you’re going to hear all week.

The film, slated for release on May 25, 2015, will focus on the adventures of a young Han Solo. It will be one of the three origin spin-off stories being placed in the Star Wars Anthology section of the universe, which is away from the core tent pole films. A Han Solo film is pretty obvious, but with Lord and Miller at the helm things just got really exciting even if the brief plot description given isn’t.

The story focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.

Here’s what the two directors had to say about jumping onto the film.

“This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”
