Philip Seymour Hoffman joins cast of A Late Quartet

I used to not like Philip Seymour Hoffman. It was one of those inexplicable dislikes, and I can’t even begin to explain it. Said dislike has since been squandered by the majesty that is one Philip Seymour Hoffman. The delightful news that he has just joined the cast of the indie film A Late Quartet alongside Catherine Keener and Christopher Walken only furthers my joy.

The press release provides the following synopsis: “Hoffman, Keener, (Jeremy) Northam and Walken play a world-renowned string quartet struggling to stay together as they mark their 25th anniversary in the face of illness, competing egos and insuppressible lust.”

Quartet is director Yaron Zilberman’s second film and his first fictional piece. He co-wrote the script with Butterfly Effect 3 director Seth Grossman. While that may be cause for concern for some, but I really enjoyed Butterfly Effect 3.

I love, love, love four-string quartets, PSH, Catherine Keener, and Christopher Walking, so this sounds like it could be really good and/or really dark. Either way, color me intrigued. Keep an eye out for A Late Quartet, which should be out at some point later this year, and check out one of my favorite four-string pieces…
