‘Portal’ short film director to take on Y: The Last Man

In what is probably all short film directors’ dreams come true, Dan Trachtenburg, notably known as the director for an awesome Portal fan film, Portal: No Escape, has nabbed himself a shot at the big time. After DJ Caruso and Louis Letterier left New Line Cinema’s adaptation of Y: The Last Man, Trachtenburg has been selected as director.

I’m actually in favor of this. While Y is an outstanding series, there are plenty of ways an adaptation can screw it up. It’s got a story that works well for an 60 issue series, but can’t be whittled into two hours without leaving out some important moments. And by the looks of his fan film, Trachtenburg really cares for a subject material he works with. Then again, that’s only one example of his work. Either way, I’m all for giving unknown, promising directors a chance. What about all of you? Would you have preferred a more known director?

For reference, I’ve added Trachtenburg’s short film, Portal: No Escape after the jump.
