I can’t believe I missed that William Friedkin is adapting another Tracy Letts play! Friedkin adapted the Tracy Letts play Bug back in 2006. Bug is actually my favorite play, and the film version, in spite of Ashley Judd’s presence, is fairly amazing. Killer Joe is one of Letts’s earlier plays, centering around a young drug dealer, played in the film by Emile Hirsch, that is forced to turn to the brutal Killer Joe (Matthew McConaughey) for help paying off a $6,000 debt. It’s very dark, violent stuff with a weird humorous streak, and Letts is writing the screenplay, as he did for Bug. The film’s poster has just been released, which you can see in the gallery below.

I’m excited to see more from this one. Here’s hoping it doesn’t get soundly ignored like Bug did.
