Posters for Studio Ghibli’s two 2013 films

The Studio Ghibli retrospective in New York City is entering its final week now. As that draws to a close, we’re getting a small taste of Studio Ghibli’s output for next year. Two posters have dropped, one for Hayao Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises (Kaze Tachinu) and one for Isao Takahata’s The Story of Princess Kaguya (Kaguya-Hime no Monogatari). Both are quite beautiful, but I have a special liking for theWind Rises one. It seems so elegant yet so simple.

The Wind Rises will focus on the life of Jiro Horikoshi, the designer behind many Japanese WWII planes, most notably the Mitsubishi A6M Zero. Frequent Miyazaki collaborator Joe Hisaishi will compose the score for the film.

The Story of Princess Kayuga is based on an old Japanese story called The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter (Taketori Monogatari) about a princess who was discovered as a baby inside of a bamboo stalk.

Take a look at both posters in the gallery. Expect more information about both films in the coming months.
