PSA: Save big on Ghibli blu-rays/DVDs at Best Buy & Amazon this week

To celebrate the release of Studio Ghibli’s most recent film, The Tale of Princess Kaguya, on home media this Tuesday, retailers Amazon.com and Best Buy have rolled out some crazy good prices for previous Ghibli DVDs and blu-rays.  Ghibli and Miyazaki fans know that these films rarely go on anything resembling a sale, so being able to grab films such as My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Russo, and Grave of the Fireflies, and plenty others for about half the asking price is definitely an opportunity to take advantage of.

Plus these are all the most recent reissues of all these films on blu-ray, mostly from Disney.  Collectors of the John Lasseter era DVDs should know that the special features remain mostly the same but feature new restorations– which look great in HD, I might add– and in some cases, re-editing of the English tracks to keep them more in line with original Japanese releases.

Amazon has matched the Best Buy price of about $20 for each blu-ray combo pack.  You can get the DVDs alone for a little less, but why not treat yourself with the fancy HD version for a few more dollars?

Sales like these don’t come around often, so I figured a heads-up would appreciated by those of you looking to finally add some of these classics to your film library for cheap or upgrade some Ghibli favorites to full beautiful HD.
