Ready or Not red band trailer makes hide and seek deadly

0

Fox Searchlight is mostly known for their indie dramas and high brow fair, but it looks like they’ll be delivering something a bit more horror centered with Ready or Not. As you can tell from the NSFW trailer above the film is a bloody thriller about a game of hide and seek that gets very extreme. Thankfully, the film is also not taking itself too seriously, as the trailer basically jams in jokes along with the blood.

This movie could go terribly wrong, but judging from the Clue and You’re Next vibes I’m picking up I have high hopes. Whereas horror films based on games like Truth or Dare and Quija play their horror straight forward, Ready or Not seems to be using its ridiculous premise to subvert the genre and play with it. That’s the best, and possibly only, way to do horror based on a game and I’m glad someone has finally decided to realize that. I mean, I hope they have. I haven’t seen the movie. I’m basing a lot of this on the trailer and the fact that Fox Searchlight is a studio that usually makes good movies.

Another good sign is that they didn’t name the movie after the damn game.

Ready or Not opens on August 23, 2019.
