Red band teaser trailer for I Think We’re Alone Now is perfectly teasing

In an age when movies give away their entire plots in one trailer, the new teaser for I Think We’re Alone Now is wonderfully simplistic. It’s basically a single shot with a little bit of narration, and yet it delivers on the intrigue and themes that the film promises. Well done marketing team.

The movie, starring Peter Dinklage and Elle Fanning, takes place after a cataclysm that has killed off much of the world. Dinklage’s character lives alone in an abandoned town and is perfectly happy doing so when Fanning shows up to shake him up a bit. The movie got strong reviews out of Sundance this year, and evidently, there’s more to the story than just that. Thankfully the trailer isn’t leaking whatever that is.

Reed Morano is one of the most striking cinematographers working so her feature film debut is sure to bring that bold starkness she’s known for (see The Handmaid’s Tale) to full blast. That’s, of course, perfect for a post-apocalyptic character study and I’m hoping the movie is bold enough to stay as just that and not turn into some action piece halfway through.

Also, you’re welcome for getting “I Think We’re Alone Now” stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
