Remedy’s supernatural masterpiece Control might be getting a screen adaptation

Take this one with a grain of salt, but if an exchange between a couple of noteworthy names on Twitter means anything we might be seeing Remedy Entertainment’s 2019 action game Control join the ranks of game-to-film adaptations.

Gary Whitta is the screenwriter on the Hughes Brothers’ 2010 film The Book of Eli and, more recently Rogue One in 2016. Responding to a fan’s question on Twitter, Whitta expressed interest in writing an adaptation of Control, Remedy’s 2019 shooter set amidst the world of trans-dimensional horror and bureaucratic intrigue. Think Hellboy meets the mind-bending visuals of Inception, with a heavy dose of The X-Files.

Responding to Whitta’s enthusiasm, Thomas Puha is the communications director at Remedy. The casual nature of Puha’s response to Whitta means this project isn’t even a project yet, but the seeds have been planted.

Control was a major awards winner in the gaming circuit last year, selling well as well as earning praise from critics and players alike. A film adaptation–or a series, or whatever may or may not come of this–would certainly have an audience should it get off the ground.
