Ren & Stimpy is getting a revival thanks to Comedy Central

0

The 90s will never die, it seems. Comedy Central has just announced that a revival of the hit Nickelodeon cartoon Ren & Stimpy will be happening in the near future. Coming from Nickelodeon Animation Studios, the project is a part of the push that ViacomCBS Entertainment is making with capitalizing on 90s nostalgia and follows in the footsteps of Daria spin-off Jodie and the recently announced Beavis and Butt-Head revival.

Viacom’s Entertainment and Youth Group president Chris McCarthy said, “We are excited to reinvent this iconic franchise with a new creative team and our partners at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio. Ren & Stimpy joins our rapidly expanding roster of adult animation including South ParkBeavis and Butt-Head and Clone High as we continue to reimagine our treasure chest of beloved IP for new generations.”

Details about the show are limited, but that new creative team is looking to reinvent Ren & Stimpy. Hopefully, this doesn’t take the form of that awful SpikeTV continuation that aired in the early ’00s, but rather something more akin in spirit to what Nickelodeon’s bizarre and censor pushing original was like.

Also, please keep creator John Kricfalusi away from this. We don’t need any more rapists in Hollywood.
