Richard Linklater’s Before Midnight set for May release

Before Midnight was one of Allistair’s favorite movies at Sundance 2013 and is one of my most anticipated movies of the year. I’ll be catching it at SXSW next month, and I’ll probably be seeing it again when it’s released in New York and LA on May 24th by Sony Pictures Classics.

Before Midnight is the third film in a series of collaborations between Richard Linklater, Ethan Hawke, and Julie Delpy. The previous two movies, Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, are both masterpieces in their own right, which is why, as Ethan Hawke explained in our interview, there was a lot of pressure to get Before Midnight right.

No word yet on additional release dates or cities after May 24th, but it will very likely play limited theaters through the summer. Now all I’m waiting for is Linklater’s ambitious film Boyhood, which started shooting back in 2002 and will be completed in 2014.
