Transformers: Rise of the Beasts rises up past the competition this weekend

0

It was a fierce battle at the box office this weekend, but the newly released Transformers: Rise of the Beasts managed to rise past the competition with a decent opening weekend gross of $60.5 million domestically. Internationally, the latest outing for the autobots grossed $170.5 million with an impressive $40 million coming from China.

In second place came Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, though it didn’t land in the spot willingly. In a day-by-day breakdown, Spidey actually beat Transformers on Saturday but lost the overall crown with a weekend gross of $55.4 million. That brings the domestic total of Across the Spider-Verse to $225.5 million and the international total to $390 million. Spidey has outdone himself.

As for third place, it should be no surprise that Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid is still hanging on with an additional $22.7 million domestically. Sadly, the film has all but died overseas and will likely not break $500 globally. That’s not going to end up well for the film, especially if the reported $250 million budget is accurate.

The rest of the top 10 is what you’d expect given that a number of blockbusters are still in theaters. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is still out there despite having its home video release this past weekend. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has broken the total gross of the first film but isn’t quite up to the same numbers as Vol. 2. It’s still very solid.

Here is the top 10 for this past weekend (all numbers domestic):

  1. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts – $60.5 million
  2. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – $55.5 million
  3. The Little Mermaid – $22.7 million
  4. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – $7 million
  5. The Boogeyman – $6.9 million
  6. Fast X – $5.2 million
  7. The Super Mario Bros. Movie – $2.1 million
  8. About My Father – $845,000
  9. Past Lives – $520,772
  10. You Hurt My Feelings – $417,454
