RLJE looks to capture more of that Mandy magic, acquires Color out of Space before its premier

RLJE has teamed with SpectreVision and XYZ films to try to brew up another perfect storm of success similar to Mandy by acquiring the rights to Richard Stanley’s Color Out of Space before its Midnight Madness world premier at this year’s TIFF.

The film, based on a story by H.P Lovecraft stars Nicolas Cage and refers to itself as a “technicolor nightmare.” Both very good signs that this could tap into some of the trippy, surreal power that made Mandy so successful. The synopsis itself is pretty lean, seeing Cage as a farmer who has the bad luck of watching a meteorite fall into his front yard. This space rock contains an extraterrestrial being (of course) who infects his and his family’s minds and bodies. They must fight against this being to survive.

This synopsis leads me to believe that we’ll see Nicolas Cage scream a lot, so I am very much down.

Color Out of Space is yet to have any wide release plans, but if you folks are anything like me waiting for the next blast of Cage weirdness, this is the one to keep your eye on. Also, be sure to watch Between Worlds. You can’t get much weirder than that.
