Robert De Niro to be honored with SAG Life Achievement award

After appearing in some of the most critically acclaimed movies of all time, actor Robert De Niro is set to receive a SAG Life Achievement award early next year. On January 19, 2020, during the 26th annual SAG Awards, the man will be given the honor on live TV and in front of a large audience. A man of few words, De Niro said, “I have been a member of this union for over 50 years. It’s an honor to receive this award from SAG-AFTRA.”

Gabriella Carteris, president of SAG, added “Robert De Niro is an actor of extraordinary depth and ability. The characters he creates captivate our imaginations. From the smoldering inferno of young Vito Corleone to the raging bull Jake Lamotta and everybody’s grandpa Ben Whittaker, he continues to touch our hearts and open our minds to new and exciting worlds of understanding and emotion.”

His career really speaks for itself, too. Much like his contemporary, Al Pacino, De Niro has starred in a wide range of films from practically every genre. Gangster movies, comedies, dramas: about the only thing he hasn’t currently shown up in is a Marvel movie (…yet). Even trying to pick out a defining role from the man, there are so many classics that come to mind. Do I go with Godfather Part II, or Raging Bull. Maybe Heat or Meet The Parents. Hell, he even did an excellent job in Silver Lining’s Playbook, a film that featured the man much later into his career.

Maybe it was kind of obvious that De Niro would eventually receive this award, but it’s nice news nonetheless.
