Robert Downey Jr. says Marvel has no plans for Iron Man 4

While I didn’t like Iron Man 3 completely, I did appreciate its brave choices (such as the conclusion of Tony Stark’s 4 movie arc). While I suspect the finale to be undone by Avengers: Age of Ultron next year, I hoped that Marvel would at least focus on newer properties going forward. It looks like that’s the case for now.

In an interview with Variety, Robert Downey Jr had this to say about the series:

“There isn’t one in the pipe,” Downey said. “No, there’s no plan for a fourth ‘Iron Man.”

There’s no way we can misconstrue this. Since Downey has only been signed on for two Avengers sequels, maybe Iron Man can get a bit of a rest as Marvel’s pushing new heroes. Since this kind of thing doesn’t really have a precedent, I don’t know what Marvel should do. Maybe kind of cycle actors or characters in and out, so no one gets bored? If the bubble pops, we won’t have to worry about this stuff anyway. What do you all think? Do you even want more Iron Man(s)?
