Robert Kirkman’s Invincible coming to Amazon as animated series

Robert Kirkman makes a lot of money thanks to The Walking Dead, and Amazon is hoping he can work his magic again as they’ve made a direct to series order for an animated series based on his Invincible comic. The series will be an adult-oriented, hour-long cartoon that focuses on a boy and his father as the boy begins training to become a superhero and will run for eight episodes.

Amazon is pushing hard to find that hit show that will turn its streaming service into something more than an also-ran, and they inked a big deal with Kirkman to help them do it. I’m not sure if an animated superhero show will be the one to do it, but the company is using a lot of words about subverting expectations and delivering something new, so maybe it will stand out. I’m not too informed on the comic, but I hear animation is probably the best way to tackle it.

There’s no word on when the show will premiere.
