Robert Redford is the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Just last week we reported that Robert Redford was in talks with the possibility of him joining the cast of Marvel’s upcoming film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Today he was confirmed for his casting in the film and he revealed to Spinoff Online what his role will be. It was rumored that he would be playing a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. operative, but what specifically was not known. Redford clarified by saying, “Well, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. The head of S.H.I.E.L.D.” He also went on to say:

The Captain America thing is just a very simple thing. I wanted to do something different. Something bold, different. And that felt like a good thing to do. That was it, nothing more to it than that. Well, it’s bold in terms of expectations, I guess.

Redford will be starring with Chris Evans, Sebastian Stand, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, and Max Hernández. Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be set for an April 4, 2014 release.
